SkipM8

Stay compliant on every skip without extra paperwork

Every load needs a record, and paper is where mistakes creep in. SkipM8 builds the records from the job itself, so the waste transfer note, the EWC codes and the DEFRA receipt all come from one booking.

From October 2026, every permitted waste site in England, Wales and Northern Ireland must record each receipt of waste on DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking Service (Scotland follows in January 2027). SkipM8 sends your receipts to the service and shows you anything that's still outstanding.

Your office can see what's been reported, what's ready to go and what needs fixing, so nobody's chasing paper round the yard.

How a load stays compliant, from booking to DEFRA

  1. You set up each waste type once, with its EWC codes, physical form and any hazardous or POPs details.
  2. When a collection is booked, SkipM8 creates its waste transfer note, ready to print for the driver.
  3. On site, the driver can confirm the waste type and take the customer's signature in the driver app.
  4. At the depot, your team records the weights and splits the load by EWC code.
  5. SkipM8 checks the receipt and it is ready to send to DEFRA, by your office or automatically if you switch that on. If anything is missing, SkipM8 tells you exactly what.

Compliance questions

Do we have to enter receipts on DEFRA's website ourselves?

SkipM8 sends receipts to the Digital Waste Tracking Service for you. Submit one record, tick several and submit them together, or switch on automatic submission so each receipt goes as soon as it is complete.

What happens when a record is missing something?

It is marked as needing attention, with a plain-English list of what to fix, such as a missing weight, vehicle registration or carrier licence. Fix it, refresh the record and it is ready to submit.

Can we correct a receipt after it has gone to DEFRA?

Yes. Amend the weights or waste breakdown and SkipM8 sends the corrected receipt to DEFRA under its existing tracking ID.

What about waste we collected before moving to SkipM8?

You can record a waste receipt by hand from the waste movements list, so loads handled in your old system can still be reported to DEFRA.

Do we still need waste transfer notes?

Yes. Waste transfer notes are required under the Duty of Care (Environmental Protection Act 1990, section 34). SkipM8 creates one for every job that takes waste away and keeps it with the booking.
