SkipM8

How Saxon Skips freed up half its office day

Before SkipM8, the office ran on paper. Taking bookings, planning the day, raising invoices and keeping on top of waste paperwork took up most of the office's day.

Moving to SkipM8 cut that workload by about half, freeing the team to focus on customers rather than paperwork. The latest SkipM8, with DEFRA waste reporting and accounting integration, saves a further 3 hours a day in the office and 2–3 hours a week for the accounts team.

About half the office day back from paperwork, and around 15 more hours every week with the latest SkipM8.

The results

1,170% return on investment every year. SkipM8 saves them around 13 times what it costs, and a full year of SkipM8 pays for itself in about four weeks.

About half the office day freed up from paperwork, plus around 15 hours a week in the office and 2–3 hours a week for the accounts team from DEFRA reporting and accounting integration.

Based on the customer's own estimates. Return on investment is savings minus cost, divided by cost. Weekly hours assume a five-day week.

Bookings and customers in one place

The problem: Bookings lived in a diary and on paper forms. Answering a customer's question meant finding the right piece of paper.

What SkipM8 does: Take a booking on one screen, with customer, address, skip, waste type and price. See every customer's bookings, jobs and invoices on one record, and how many of each skip are out on hire.

What it saves: No diary to keep and no paper to search. Bookings take minutes and every answer is a click away.

Dispatch board

The problem: Runs were planned on paper, and every job's details had to be written out again for the drivers.

What SkipM8 does: Give each job to a driver and vehicle, see the whole day's work on one screen, print each driver's job sheet in one click, and drag a job to another driver when plans change.

What it saves: Nothing to write out each morning, and no job details copied from one sheet to another.

Digital waste transfer notes

The problem: Every collection needs a waste transfer note under the Duty of Care, written out, signed, filed and kept.

What SkipM8 does: A note in your own layout is created automatically for every collection, printed ready for the driver and kept against its job, so it can be found in seconds.

What it saves: No handwriting, filing or hunting for lost notes, and a complete Duty of Care record.

Automatic DEFRA reporting

The problem: From October 2026, digital waste tracking is mandatory. Reporting every load received by hand would add another job to every day.

What SkipM8 does: Record each load's weight and waste breakdown (EWC codes) at the depot. SkipM8 builds the waste record, sends it to DEFRA automatically, logs every submission and flags anything that needs attention.

What it saves: Waste is recorded once and reported automatically, with no extra work.

Invoicing linked to the accounts

The problem: Invoices were written up from job sheets, then every invoice, credit and payment was typed again into the accounts.

What SkipM8 does: Invoices are raised from completed jobs with the right prices, weights and VAT. Invoices, credit notes, payments and refunds go to Xero, QuickBooks or Sage in one click, and payments come back into SkipM8.

What it saves: Each invoice is entered once, saving the accounts team 2–3 hours a week.

More to come in 2027

These are today's results. New features and improvements arriving in the new year are designed to take more work off the office and push these savings further, starting with the My Jobs driver app, which puts jobs and signatures on drivers' phones.
